As many of you no doubt know, 2006 marks the 10th aniversary of Quake. It seems to me (and to quite a few others) that it would be wrong of us to let this occasion pass without notice.
It is therefore proposed that we will break with the 2 year tradition and hold a qexpo this very year. As for whether this will be quake 1 only, or a more inclusive event, that is still to be decided.
As many of you also know, I will not be at the helm for this Qexpo. It's a position I enjoyed immensely, but it's the tradition that it be passed on. We are, therefore, looking for someone to lead Qexpo in this aniversary year.
I'd like to begin discussions for it early this year, as last year much was done at the last minute. If a leader can be decided upon early enough, it's perfectly possible to have the qexpo set up well in advance.
So, I open this thread in search of two things. Firstly, a new leader, and secondly, for discussion of ideas for the qexpo.
So, let me know what y'all think.

Well, goodness me.

As for a leader, I would nominate Wazat, only he's incredibly busy, so I doubt he would be able to take on full leader responsibilities.
Urre would be an excellent candidate, as he has been around the Quake scene for a long time, and has experience with website and adminstrative responsibilities (sorta).
An alternative would be to make it a collaborative effort, with several people breaking up to take on the responsibilities together, though, this would be less coordinated. Just some thoughts.
... LordHavoc maybe?

Personally I think it should be a more inclusive event like QExpo 2005 was, not just Quake 1 exclusively, although Q1 should be the main theme.

Of course a group leading would be better, but since we've had such difficulty finding even one person willing to do the job each time, finding a whole load would be a lot harder.
Either way, we're still on the lookout for volunteers.

I'll volunteer.
The only possible problem may be free time, so if I do get the position I'd like to also appoint one or two other people to work on it with me.
And remember, regardless of who gets picked, I'm more than willing to host it again.
I'd like to see all released-source Quake engines in the expo honestly. This meens Quake1/2/3. Which meens this will probably be the largest QExpo yet.
If we shoot for mid-summer, the college-student-developers will be on break, so this will also make it a very large event.

I believe July 22nd is the actual aniversary of the quake retail release, so that seems a sensible date to base it around.

Any thoughts about how long the expo should run? If Q3 is included in the expo, there will probably be a lot more to see this time around, I'm sure a hell of a lot has been done with it in the time it's source has been released.

Maybe, personally I think there'll be a lot less to see since it'll only have been one year since the last qexpo.
One idea that has been floated about is to have the qexpo 11 days long, and for each day to be used to celebrate a year from '96 to the present day.

Well this is more of an engine-development expo... at least that's what I thought.

Whatever happens, I very much doubt Quake 4 will be involved. It would simply overshadow everything else to an unenjoyable extent.
Qexpo is about celebrating the older, open-source quake games.
